God Answers His Way

God Answers His Way

I found God in an answered prayer about the delivery of my daughter, Olivia.

Throughout my pregnancy I prayed for Olivia’s health and the person she would become, but I also had two specific prayers regarding my delivery. I prayed that I would know when to go to the hospital and that I would not have to be induced. My due date passed and I was scheduled to be induced on October 24, 2013. On October 23, five days after my due date, I woke up in pain but knew it wasn’t time to go the hospital. My husband and I had plans for the day: trade in our Kia Soul for a Toyota Tacoma, and get our dogs to his parent’s house where they would stay while I was in the hospital.

The car dealership, half way between our home and the hospital, was our first stop. We drove to the dealership, took care of paperwork, and were out the door with a new- to-us vehicle. My husband asked if it was time and I said no. We started our drive home when, about 5 minutes away, I decided it was time to go to the hospital. We made a few calls and headed for the hospital. When we arrived, I went to labor and delivery to be told no bed was available for me. The nurses monitoring me asked me if I was in labor to which I said “I don’t know, that’s why I came here.” After being in the hospital for a few hours my doctor finally arrived to tell me that I was not ready and I should go home and come back in the morning to be induced as scheduled. I was devastated.

My husband dropped me off at my parent’s house and left to take care of our dogs. I went to the bathroom.  After some time and a huge increase in pain, I tried to get up from the toilet and felt Olivia’s head. I yelled for my mom; she yelled for my dad; and by the time he got connected with a 911 operator Olivia had arrived just two hours after I left the hospital, making her grand entrance on the bathroom floor at my parent’s house.

Later that night, I realized God had answered both of my prayers. I didn’t have to be induced and I knew when to go the hospital, they just didn’t know to keep me. This experience reminds me that God answers prayers in ways we do not expect or imagine. I definitely didn’t expect my answer to prayer to come in this way. God answer us in His way, not ours, because He is God and knows exactly what we need and when we need it.
