Thanksgiving - From the Editor

Thanksgiving, the great American hol-i-day. We do our best food preparation, observe our most cherished traditions. Of course, we will serve turkey, and stuffing, and mashed potatoes, and gravy, and cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. At my house we always add corn pudding, green bean casserole, pickle plate, hot rolls and pecan pie – no not chocolate pecan pie because that is only for Christmas. Perish the thought that anyone would hazard a change to the menu. We will eat too much and enjoy every last bite. And then some of us will watch football, others—those strange folks who cannot abide a mess—will clean-up the kitchen. The grands will chase through the house along with dogs and cats. For a few minutes anyway, we will enjoy the warmth of family.

And we will give thanks. The Psalmist says, Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 106:1

  • We give thanks because he is good. His is good, by nature. His deeds are good. His intentions toward his children are only good. He is a good, good Father.
  • We give thanks because his love endures forever. Over and over again in the Levitical law, holy, almighty God describes himself as the one whose love endures forever, to all generations.

I hope you will take time to consider God who affirmed his high regard for you by giving you his one and only son. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift. 2 Corin 9:15
