Promises of God: He Always Fulfills
As a young mother, I found myself trying to maintain a home of four girls, a husband, my father-in-law who also lived with us and about 7 species of animals. I struggled to keep it clean and organized. It could get very discouraging. Though the children had chores and grandpa helped too, it seemed there was nothing in my house that wasn’t stained or broken.
As I sat before the Lord one day, I looked around at the stained couch and sighed heavily. Then I came across this scripture:
By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge it rooms are full of rare and beautiful treasures. (Prov. 24:3-4)
I asked the Lord to give me this scripture. To fill my house with rare and beautiful treasures, things not stained or broken. Then I left it in his hands. I had no idea how He would fulfill this promise. I never imagined He would send me to the world to collect my own rare and beautiful treasures.
As I began to get involved in missions, I had many opportunities to join short-term mission trips. I helped start two non-profits and sat on three non-profit boards. With each trip, I brought home treasures. Members of the non-profits would thank me by bringing gifts from around the world.
Now after many years, I look around at the rare beautiful treasures that fill every nook and cranny of my home. Treasures like rocks from the Nile river, shells from the Caribbean Islands, African wood bowls, and Indonesian tapestries.
But my greatest treasures are those that do not show; the memories of seeing people come to Christ, get healed, and begin a new life; the pictures of friends in Africa, China, Russia carefully preserved in photo albums. These are the true fulfillment of His Word to me so long ago.
Funny thing is that now that I am retiring and downsizing, I have too many rare and beautiful treasure. The Word tell us:
Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or image according to His power that is at work in us, to Him be the Glory . . .
God always fulfills His promises beyond our ability to image how He is going to do it. If you are leaning on a promise from him, don’t try and figure it out. Wait for it; He will bring it to pass.
